Perhaps the best time to pen something from the heart...

The past week was a package of mirth, celebration, creativity and innumerable moments of absolute fulfilment.  Last week this time, the English fraternity was eagerly waiting for the Monday morning, to stage our prestigious Association programme - "Noclachia", a return to the 80s. As we always say, our association "Mantra" as the very name suggests, is undoubtedly a cherished camaraderie in tranquility and we never miss a single chance to celebrate it. On Monday, 6th March 2023, we reached the college in polka dot sarees recreating the retro vibes. The programme started at 10.00am with the logo launching of our association, followed by a skit competition, treasure hunt and a movie screening. A mobile photography contest was also open to the students. We also provided the traditional drink "Sambharam" to all, thus lightening the effects of the hot weather outside. Noclachia, as we hoped, turned out to be a grand success and received much appreciation from the teachers and students alike.

The Department of Commerce, Malayalam and Social Science bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively in the photography contest. The Department of Social Science successfully completed the Treasure Hunt whereas the Department of Malayalam won the first prize for skit. We screened the popular movie Panchavadippalam in the afternoon session, creating an old theatrical ambience in the college general hall. And we were sure that "Noclachia" through which we made the past afresh, will always remain one of the most nostalgic events for us in future.

Recalling the past week, Wednesday, 8th March is also an unforgettable day. Bahumukhi, the Women Development Cell of the college, organized International Women's Day celebration in the college. The resource person Adv. Sindhu Gopalakrishnan gave the Women's Day message and spoke on the subject "Women and Law". The programme was held as a part of the workshop organized by Bahumukhi in collaboration with the Kerala State Women's Development Corporation on the general topic "Gender Issues: Awareness and Management".

Workshop organized by Bahumukhi

The same day afternoon, Bahumukhi has arranged a visit to Kasturba Gandhi Bhavan, Paranthal - a rehabilitation centre for the destitute and orphans especially past middle age. Twenty nine students from B.Ed and M.Ed, along with the teachers Dr. Chitra  L. and Dr. Binu Raj A. visited the centre. It was a heartrending experience to see the orphaned lives there. Old men and women residing there seemed happy to communicate with us, but we could sense the inconsolable sorrow of being left alone by the near and dear, lurking behind their lovely smiles and words.

A meeting was arranged there and we gave a token of love to the senior most Amma there, as a part of the Women's Day observation. We also distributed sweets to the inhabitants there and gave the cloth items we have collected for them. The rehabilitation centre officials treated us with snacks and tea and we returned by 3.45 pm. Even after we left the place, I felt heavy-hearted recollecting the agony of the people who are denied the warmth and care of familial bonds. Perhaps it signals our own responsibilities to the society as prospective teachers and future nation builders. Thus the week passed leaving a mix of emotions in the mind and making us more aware of our own individual and social roles.

And here is the next Monday... To another dawn with fresh colours, thoughts, experiences and memory making.
